An architectural façade screening system on all four sides of the seven-story Ponce City Market parking structure transforms it from an eyesore to a point of visual interest.
The tensile mesh façade is composed of a metallic silver coated PES mesh that costs a fraction of metal mesh or perforated metal, but has the look, feel, and lifespan of more expensive metal mesh. Double-layer, overlapping vertical bands of tensile mesh are secured with aluminum extrusions to tension the mesh mounted to cantilevered structural steel framework.
The ventilated tensile mesh eliminates the need for mechanical ventilation and allows for those inside the structure to have an unobstructed view out. The façade screens light pollution emitted by interior and car lights, and provides shading to reduce heat and solar gain inside the structure.
