The design of the U.S. Embassy in Vientiane, Laos reflects the import of the American government and references the host country of Laos while also integrating necessary security measures that include severe blast resistance, force protection, chemical and biological protection measures. Single-layer ETFE sunshades cover the main and consular plazas, providing shade from the direct tropical sun, and single-layer ETFE panels create a unique visual design on the facade while also minimizing solar gain. The building is certified LEED Gold.
