ASB TENNIS ARENA

THE CHALLENGE – INTEGRATING ELECTRONIC SIGNAGE INTO A MEMBRANE STRUCTURE

The ASB Tennis Arena is New Zealand’s pre-eminent tennis venue and regularly hosts major international tournaments, such as the Heineken Open for men and the ASB Classic for women. The arena recently underwent a major re-development that added a world-class gym, rooftop swimming pool, several new practice courts and seating improvements. In addition, the look of the Tennis Area from the street was significantly improved. To achieve this, a facade that incorporates electronic signage was added. Structurflex was tasked with the design and build of the facade, and worked closely with the electronic signage supplier to insure the support structure met their requirements.

THE SOLUTION – A SEPARATE SUB-STRUCTURE FOR SIGNAGE

With a view to the best outcome, and no hitches along the way, the Structurflex design team developed a totally independent sub-structure for the electronic signage, to insure it wouldn’t interfere with the membrane system. The Serge Ferrari FT381 fabric composite mesh selected for the facade is one of a new range of “expressive materials” for architects and builders. It offers exceptional transparency from inside to the outside. The completed facade has earned many favorable reviews.
